Video Capturing

What programs do any of you use to record video footage? I really need something good to record an emulator on my computer. Any suggestions?

Well the quick and dirty way is that emulators have their own video recording things built-in.

Yea but it comes out kinda choppy. I am currently using ZSNESW as my emu.

Need to get footage of console games? Here's a hint: use an emulator and I'll stab you in the soul! Much better options are to use a USB capture card, or to use a DVD recorder to capture the footage right off the screen. Then use Handbrake(free software, google it) to rip the footage from the DVD to your computer.

USB capture cards are pretty inexpensive, though the quality isn't perfect (a bit blurry, but that's actually pretty much what those things look like).

Mine's Sabrent, but it's for desktops.

They have $20 usb capture devices.
They seem cheap but everything can be great if you treat it nice.

My setup works well with recording console games. I use the following:

Dazzle DVC 100 (With Double-Sided AV Input cables)

I plug one side of the av input cables into the av output part of my tv, and I plug the other end into my dazzle, then I plug the dazzle into my pc via usb port.

As for recording software I record using v-dub. It records in AVI, so it takes up a lot of space (like 50gb per half hour). After I record roughly 30 minutes of footage I convert the avi file to mp4 using Winx AVI to MP4 video converter (the free version, you can purchase the premium version to convert to different formats.) After it is converted it only takes up like 600 mb, so I delete the avi part, rinse and repeat. It's a bit of a hassle but you get high quality footage.
